Wasil Foundation has a rich history of community-uplifting programs since 1992. A legacy that speaks for itself began from The Centre for Women Co-Operative Development (CWCD) which is now known as Wasil Foundation. It was established as a Non-Governmental Organization under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration & Control) Ordinance 1961. In 2012, CWCD transitioned into a not-for-profit company registered under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984, formally becoming Wasil Foundation after transferring all its assets and liabilities.
In 2009, Wasil Foundation made a monumental shift, transitioning from conventional microfinance to Islamic Microfinance. By 2010, the organization successfully discontinued conventional microfinance operations, becoming Pakistan’s pioneering organization in Islamic Microfinance.
Wasil Foundation takes pride in its commitment to its mission of alleviating poverty through innovative enterprise development and the establishment of sustainable value chains.
We stand as pioneers of Islamic Microfinance in Pakistan, successfully introducing five Shariah-compliant financial products: Murabaha, Salam, Istisna, Ijara, and Diminishing Musharaka, in adherence to the principles of Islam.

Our mission is simple yet profound: poverty alleviation through enterprise development. To achieve this, we pioneered a unique model of microfinance that shifts the narrative. Instead of focusing solely on the “poorest of the poor,” we embrace the ideology of the “potential poor”:
those with the drive and capability to change their circumstances, given the right opportunities and support.
Join us in our journey to create lasting change.
